Hi All,
Big news for Querent this week! The Steam demo has officially launched, and its big debut is tomorrow at Q-Con in West Hollywood. If you are in the area, come out to show your support and enter to win a Querent t-shirt.
Building this demo was a massive step forward for the overall development and helped me fully realize the game’s vision and mechanics.
The Demo Features:
- Full character voice acting
- Four playable characters
- Three distinct battles
How You Can Support the Game:
- Download the demo and leave a review.
- Wishlist the game on Steam.
- Send your feedback to joel@querent.games so I can keep improving the experience.
Gameplay & Design Updates: I’ve made several core changes to the gameplay while gathering early feedback for the demo:
- Overhauled Turn-Loop: All cards from a character’s deck are now shuffled directly into the player’s hand. This boosts tactical variety on every turn and ensures each playthrough offers a unique experience.
- Major Arcana Updates: Major Arcana now function as playable action cards while remaining completely unique to each character.
- Focused Deckbuilding: Card acquisition happens through dedicated card readings with Mylo. You choose from a curated selection, keeping the decision-making process focused and streamlined.
- Character Customization: The customization menu now displays complete, visible lists for each category to make your styling options immediately clear.
- Narrative Shifts: Introduced the protagonist’s twin, Shawn, to drive a deeply impactful narrative arc. Replaced Uncle Max.
- Visual Polish: Integrated custom, vector-based ability effects to perfectly match the game’s aesthetic. Replaced premade assets.
- Dynamic Storytelling: Enhanced the intro cutscenes to deliver a clear, engaging opening to the story.
- UI & Accessibility: Polished the user interface for a modern look, and added new accessibility settings including UI scaling and custom color options.
- Input Support: Refined controller and keyboard mappings for smooth, intuitive gameplay across platforms.
I am incredibly excited for this next stage of development. I will be focusing heavily on refining the story and mechanics while building out the remaining content.
Thank you for your continued support!
– Joel
